Over the week end we will have access to the MoD range at Luce Sands when we will walk from Glenluce to Terally Point, joining up the journey round the coast.
Today's walk goes down to the village of Drummore where we completed a circular walk yesterday down and round the Mull Of Galloway. Today, we cut over from Drummore to take up the walk again on the west coast of the Mull, heading to Logan Bay. After yesterday's hillside experience fighting with gorse and brambles, we have taken the path of least resistance today, taking a number of local paths, tracks and minor roads. We also have a shorter mileage than usual.
As we set off walking at Terally Bay it was slightly queer weather. There was quite thick cloud overhead, casting shadow where we were walking, creating a very close heat that stayed with us for most of the day. On the horizon, however, there was a lovely band of silver light which created shimmering sparkles across the tops of the waves. With the tide out, the surface was constantly changing between pebbles, to flat stone pavements and sand.
Coming away from Low Clanyard, we moved on to rough ground again, passing above Clanyard Bay. Above the bay itself was the location of Clanyard Mill which incorporated a horse-powered threshing mill. This animation by Phil Heslop on Youtube gives an idea of what the set up would have looked like. It also includes a couple of old photographs of Clanyard Bay area.
