We reluctantly moved on this morning from our accommodation for the last couple of nights. The Green View in Silloth, run by Graeme and Archie must rank as one of the best places we have stayed in over the last few years.
The walk today was completed almost wholly on small roads, which thankfully, did not have too much traffic on them. Essentially, we were walking round the two other sides of the large marshes we crossed over yesterday. As well as the marshes, we needed to clear a couple of rivers and various other water features. For the major part it was an exceedingly boring few hours, with little to see as a consequence of hedgerows and walls. Sure, the hedgerows were pretty and colourful in places , but for me it was not enough to compensate for the hours spent on tarmacadam.
It was not until we reached about Anthon, about two-thirds of the way through the walk that we enjoyed any coastal view at all. From there until Bowness-on-Solway we had occasional good views over the Firth to Galloway. We were both dead beat by the time reached the B&B and glad to remove the walking boots from aching feet. Apart from the views of the Firth towards the end, this was a walk that for me does not have a lot to recommend it.
