We had lovely Airbnb accommodation in Fishguard which always makes it more difficult to move on. But move on we must.
Leaving Fishguard we dropped down the hill to Lower Town, a nice old port / fishing village with a nice old world feel to it. As we walked on from Lower and looked back, you had a much better understanding of Fishguard, Goodwick and Lower Town in the landscape. It was a very pretty prospect. We had a short stop at another Aber Bach pebble beach, before starting the climb up towards Dinas Head, initially through a nice, wooded, green area. Going up the first hill and crossing the first gully brought us back to the reality of coastal walking. There were steep climbs to start up to the headland, before passing round the shoulder and on up to the trig point. There were amazing views forwards and backwards, the former giving a clear view of the beautiful walking to come, headlands disappearing in to the distance.
Dropping down the other side of Dinas Island to Cwn-yr-Eglwys, we passed the remains of a church, destroyed by a storm the stark ruin still standing at the front of the hamlet, testimony that all that arises subsides. It was a very pretty picture, ruined church surrounded by ancient gravestones, mature beech tree standing sentinel over all that has passed, until it too will submit to Time. We spoke to singer/songwriter Jasmine Power who was over visiting from USA, meanwhile staffing the ice-cream van which provides delicious Marshfield products with flavours such as honey and ginger, burnt sugar ripple and lovely lemon sorbet.
Moving on we went round Aber Fforest & Aber Rhigian (lovely little beaches with little streams going through wooded gullies). On and round the coast, walking on the mid-cliff, the walking easier than we have come to expect. It was not too long before we were walking in to Parrog, Newport and Morawelon campsite. We had the tent up in no time, in a pitch having wonderful views across the sea. There was lovely afternoon sunshine providing a rare opportunity to sit back and enjoy the day. With a cafe on site we had no need to cook, going in quite late to enjoy nice, freshly baked pizzas. Not a bad day at all.
