On another breezy but sunny day I was accompanied for the first three miles by my daughter, Morven, who has joined us for a few days holiday.
Returning to where I left off yesterday, my route continued on promenade from Cleveleys up to and round Rossall Point to the edges of the town of Fleetwood. There was a stiff wind blowing, raising fairly high, white-topped breakers. On the rising tide, a few people braved the waters to partake in kite surfing on the choppy waters. One slightly older chap was almost flying at one point, rising fifteen to twenty feet above the waves.
Morven left me at Rossall Point to jog back to her car while I carried on round the promenade heading for the Fleetwood to Knot End-on-Sea ferry. The crossing on the river is only a couple of hundred yards, but it saves miles of walking up and down the River Wyre. Once on the other side I had a long walk across the Presall Sands which, with the tide out, were enormous. There was a gentleman zooming about on the flat sand on a sail buggy, achieving some impressive speeds.
With tide not long out the sands were wet and after a couple of miles on the beach my boots were caked with wet sand. I retired to the seawall where there is a tarmac path all the way round from Knot End to Fluke Hall. The path cuts inland at Fluke Hall on a boringly straight road heading for the village of Pilling. Just at the edge of the houses it turns on to another minor road, heading for the Lane End Amenity Area where I was to be picked up at the car park. By the time I finished, it was a very warm day and I was easily talked in to an ice cream from a van just down the road.
