From the point we crossed the sands of Constantine Bay and on to the rocks above Booby's Way to start the sixty metre climb to above Trevose Head. As we crossed the heathland here there was a solid patch of white cloud in front of us with a lovely 'mackerel' cloud formation next to it. There was little breeze coming off the sea and the low cloud served to make the atmoshere very close and hot. From some distance out we could see the white tower of the Trevose Lighthouse stand out against the clouds.
Approaching Stepper Point we have our first substantial views of the Camel Estuary off to our right on the other side of the peninsula we are on. The River Camel is visible below the line of the hill and Trebetherwick and Polzeath lie snug in the lee of the hills. We stopped by the chimney to enjoy the fantastic views over the estuary. The views over to Polzeath were stunning in the sunshine. So beautiful! We stayed around a wee bit, playing in the chimney, taking photographs of different features outline by the arc of the doorway. Reluctant to move on because we were hot and tired and knew the next bit would feel long, even if it was not. There is also a lookout station on the Point, managed by the National Coastwatch Institution.
We were pitching up for the night on the other side of town at Dennis Farm. On the outskirts of Padstow we had to turn off the main road to skirt the length of a wee lochan and then turn up on to Dennis Hill. It was a fine enough campsite but our pitch, as far up the hill as you could possibly go was on a slope no matter what way you pitched. The final downer was that it was about half a mile from the toilets. Not what you want at 3 or 4.00am. The campsite redeemed itself when the receptionist came up the hill with two folding chairs for us to sit. When you are on an extended camping trip, one of the things you miss is a seat to sit on, rather than being crouched up on the ground.
So it was that two little happy Vagabonds enjoyed their dinner and the sunset sitting in unexpected luxury. It really doesn't take much to please you when you are camping.
