After we had prepared and eaten a leisurely breakfast, it was on with the rucksacks and back on the road for the mile walk back to the coast. Like yesterday, todays route runs in front of a military firing range. The difference is that we know there is to be shooting today and we have no option but to take the long detour round the range, up to the village of Lydd and back down the other side to Lydd's Gap. The earlier part of the route will be coastal as we finish our walk round St Mary's Bay, through Greatstone, Lydd-on-Sea and round the headland of Dungeness. Beyond the firing range we are back on the coast for a few miles before headling inland up the River Rother to our accommodation in the very old village of Rye.
The weather forecast is very good and we expect to walk most of the day in sunshine.
