At the Grange we tried to access another right of way that should have taken us across the railway line, across Fenham Burn, up to Fenwick Stead and on up to the A1. We hoped this route would get us back on to a more direct line to our destination at Waren Mill. The good news? There's good news I hear you say! Yes, the weather improved, the skies cleared and the sun came out. We were still wandering around in circles, the feet were wet and smelly, the legs ached and the back was sore, but the sun was out. It could only get better.
As it turned out, this is a very nice, family-oriented camp site, while the other one we should have been staying in was a much larger and a more commercial concern primarily aimed at caravaners. The site was clean and tidy and well looked after by the warden and other staff. The facilities are good and loud noise late at night is not allowed. The campsite is very close to the coast and the expansive sands of beautiful Budle Bay and, with a car, within reach of some other local facilities.
Tent up, tea made and, despite a painful walk to the shower block, we were soon cleaned up and ready for bed. Very tired and foot weary, we both enjoyed a fairly deep sleep in the fresh country air.
