Meanwhile, we enjoyed a good night's rest in the youth hostel and after our usual breakfast of porridge and fresh fruit, supplemented with toast today, we were soon stepping out the door to a new day; 'What a plunge, what a lark!
By now it was 6.00pm and we still had not reached our pitch for the night. The OS map shows a path along the cliff top from Porthallow to Porthkerris that is not the SWCP. We queried it with the gentleman and he advised us that there had been numerous landslips on the route and it was no longer in daily use. Rather than take a chance with it in the fading light, we continued to follow the official route, at least for a short time.
